Our Mission
The goal of the Strawbridge Art League is to share and educate the local community about art while inspiring local artists.
We have many community outreach programs including our monthly Art Walk, our Brevard County School District Anti-bullying campaigns, our co-sponsorship fundraising events for the Brevard Humane Society, our Elder Art program, Pawsitive Hope thrift shop, many local charities that we sponsor, donate art to, and volunteer for.
The Strawbridge Art League Gallery is located in the heart of historic downtown Melbourne at 819-2 Strawbridge Ave. This spot is a prime location for those who wish to promote their art throughout the year. Downtown Melbourne has a monthly Friday Fest with foot traffic to all the shops, Monthly Art Walk, Twice yearly Art Shows, events happening almost every weekend! There are numerous festivals throughout the year that draw thousands of visitors to the downtown Melbourne area.
At SAL Gallery there is a large main gallery with room for 2-D and 3-D art as well as jewelry and porcelain and more, as well as our spacious South Gallery. We also have a shared studio where artist can teach or attend classes in the gallery.
We host monthly live demos and artist spotlights. We also give artists the chance to improve their skills by attending twice-weekly art nites. A former private school Ph.D. art teacher hosts these. We give our members free critiques and use of our extensive lending library of art books to research skills and techniques.
If you are a seasoned professional or a new talented individual we welcome you to experience all that we have to offer. Check out our website and follow us on Facebook or Twitter to see what we are up to now!
Our Story
The Strawbridge Art League was formed in 1997 when a group of artists gathered together with a mission to share art with our local community and beyond. Since then we have grown to over 140 members who participate in 10-15 art shows each year at our new gallery in historic downtown Melbourne, and other locations throughout Brevard. The S.A.L. Gallery features talented members who rent gallery space, work the desk and actively participate in events, shows and community projects. The SAL Gallery also has a monthly themed exhibit on display. Artists participate for a nominal fee per artwork per exhibit, with the opportunity to win cash awards at every show.
We are not just in it for ourselves: we help our local communities in numerous ways. Painting anti-bullying murals in area schools, donating artwork to local charities for their fund raising events, Art with the homeless, working with the SPCA, the Lions Club, Walk for Life, the Wildlife Hospital, and more. Please contact us if you know of a worthy cause that could use our help!
