Melinda Elwell Deegan
Award Winning Multimedia Artist
My background as an artist includes a B.S.S. in Art Education and thirty plus years as a teacher
of fine arts, and a lifetime as an artist. I have worked in many media; 3D and 2D.
Since becoming a Floridian, I find myself drawn to coastal themes and other local nature. The
two genre I work most often with are acrylic coastal paintings, and assemblages that are music
themed.
I often do large scale paintings on wood, which helps to demonstrate the sense of space in
nature, as well as the freedom to scale a painting however suits the subject! The texture of the
wood enhances the sense of nature in these pieces.
As a hobby guitarist, I am also fond of musical themed works. I often curate instruments,
which are no longer suited to play, or even parts of instruments to include in my pieces. Often
these are altered or painted in some way. Other elements I may use include photos, found
objects, texture or typography that help convey a theme or symbolic interpretation.
My regular gallery space may be viewed at Strawbridge Art League. I have also exhibited at
Melbourne Main Street Artist Spotlight.
I am available for commissioned pieces to suit your space and interest.
